In Cardona, the Nieves mine area was one of the most important potassic salt mines in Europe until 1990. Here, visitors can contemplate a natural wonder: the Salt Mountain, located in the Saline Valley.
Visitors can enjoy a photographic exhibition, arranged chronologically, including the origins of salt mining in Cardona, the Alberto and Maria Teresa mining shafts and one of the remaining machines.
Visitors are driven in special vehicles down an 86 meter slope to the salt valley, where they can admire the incredible geological formation of the Salt Mountain.
Following this, they are given mining helmets as they enter the mountain to walk through the 500 meters of galleries, where they can view the amazing stalactites and stalagmites, as well as different salt seams : sodium, potassium and magnesium.
