Known before as "Sali" and nowadays as the Salt Valley, the salt outcrops are located inside an elongated ellipse-shaped soil depression.
The Salt Valley is bordered by the Cardener river to the East, the Tresserres mountain range to the South, the Bofia Gran to the West and to the North are the hills where the town of Cardona is located, sloping up to the castle.
It is the natural geography and material richness that have made Salt Mountain worthy of being included in the "Pla d'Espais d'Interès Natural de Catalunya", the Plan for Places of Natural Interest in Catalonia.
